The Last of Us Part II — PS5 & PS5 Pro performance

Technical analysis last updated

Performance overview

The Last of Us Part II shipped as a PS4 title and remains one on every console: what changes is how much headroom the hardware gives it. On PS4 it targets 30fps at 1080p and on PS4 Pro at 1440p reconstructed to 4K, with brief drops in the heaviest water sequences. Patch 1.08 unlocked a 60fps option for PS5, and that is the version PS5 and PS5 Pro owners run today: the same PS4 Pro image at 1440p checkerboard, but at a near-locked 60fps with VRR support. PS5 Pro adds no patch, no PSSR and no resolution increase - only enough extra headroom to erase the residual dips. If you want a version rebuilt for current hardware, with native rendering and Pro-specific work, that is The Last of Us Part II Remastered, which we cover on its own page.

No dedicated PS5 Pro patch. The Pro only stabilises the existing 60fps profile; for a Pro-optimised experience the Remastered edition is the relevant page.

The 2020 release has no PS5 Pro patch. On Pro it runs the same backwards-compatible PS4 Pro build with the 60fps unlock; there is no PSSR and no resolution increase. The PS5 Pro optimised version of this game is The Last of Us Part II Remastered.
