Deathloop — PS5 & PS5 Pro performance
Technical analysis last updated
Deathloop on PS5 offers three distinct rendering modes. Performance mode targets 60fps using dynamic resolution scaling between 1080p and 1620p, delivering a nearly locked 60fps experience that serves as the recommended way to play. The Image Quality mode increases resolution to at least 1836p but runs with an unlocked frame rate that drops into the 40s and 50s. The Ray Tracing mode adds RT sun shadows and ambient occlusion at 30fps, reaching up to native 4K, but is marred by uneven frame pacing. PS4 and PS5 Pro versions were not detailed in this analysis.
Graphics modes on PlayStation 5
Deathloop runs best on PS5 in its 60fps Performance mode, which maintains high frame-rate stability via dynamic resolution. The higher-resolution Image Quality mode suffers from frequent frame drops due to an unlocked frame rate, while the 30fps Ray Tracing mode is hampered by bad frame-pacing despite impressive visual upgrades.
Performance Mode
PS5UnverifiedUses dynamic resolution scaling, typically between 1296p and 1440p, dipping to 1080p in heavy areas and peaking at 1620p in simple scenes.
Image Quality Mode
PS5UnverifiedMaintains a floor resolution of 1836p with dynamic scaling, presenting a viable 4K look in living room conditions.
Ray Tracing Mode
PS5UnverifiedAdds RT sun shadows and RT ambient occlusion, which significantly improves grounding of objects and outdoor scene lighting.
PS5 vs PS5 Pro
Side-by-side comparison of graphics modes, resolution and technical features.
A side-by-side comparison requires verified graphics-mode data on both PS5 and PS5 Pro. It appears here as soon as both versions are analysed.
Known issues
Ray-traced ambient occlusion causes visual artifacting on surfaces during camera and character motion.
The 30fps Ray Tracing mode suffers from uneven frame-pacing, resulting in judder during camera movement despite meeting the 30fps cap.
In the 1080p 120Hz Ultra Performance mode, PS5 operates without v-sync, causing noticeable on-screen tearing during gameplay.
