The Lord of the Rings: Gollum suffers from severe technical defects on all console platforms. PS5 performs relatively better than Xbox Series X by avoiding severe streaming hitches and animation judder bugs, though both premium machines struggle to maintain target frame rates. Series S is in a near-unplayable state, dropping into the teens in cutscenes and struggling in the 20s. Enabling Gollum's hair physics toggle in patch 1.1 caused frequent crashes (~12 crashes in 30 minutes); the toggle was temporarily removed on PS5 in patch 1.3.
Post-cutscene gameplay can load without geometry or collision meshes, causing Gollum to infinitely fall and force a complete save file deletion.
