Rise of the Ronin
Rise of the Ronin on PS5 offers three graphics modes: Performance, Graphics, and Ray Tracing. Performance mode targets 60fps with resolution dynamic down to ~936p upscaled via FSR2, providing the smoothest combat experience despite occasional drops into the 40s–50s. Graphics mode boosts internal resolution up to 1512p but runs at an uncapped 35–50fps. Ray Tracing mode introduces ray-traced reflections in limited areas, but triggers severe drops into the 30s when reflection surfaces appear. Engaging the optional 30fps cap in Graphics/RT modes introduces uneven frame pacing. Performance mode remains the recommended preset.
Graphics modes on PlayStation 5
Rise of the Ronin delivers fluid combat on PS5, best enjoyed in Performance mode despite blurry FSR2 upscaling from sub-1080p native resolutions. Image quality across all modes suffers from low anisotropic filtering and noticeable pop-in of foliage, shadows, and NPCs. Cutscenes and capped 30fps modes exhibit severe frame pacing judder.
Performance
PS5Targets dynamic 1152p internal resolution, frequently running around 936p or below 1080p, upscaled to 4K via FSR2 with visible motion artifacts on foliage. Uses screen-space reflections.
Graphics
PS5Dynamic internal resolution up to 1512p, typically running around 1152p. Offers the highest image sharpness and improved screen-space reflection quality over other modes.
Ray Tracing
PS5Internal resolution targets dynamic 1152p, typically ranging from 810p to 900p upscaled via FSR2. Adds ray-traced reflections in specific indoor and tutorial areas, falling back to SSR elsewhere.
Known issues
Enabling the optional 30fps cap in Graphics or Ray Tracing modes (as well as during cutscenes in all modes) causes noticeable judder due to uneven frame pacing.
Foliage, shadow maps, lighting effects, and NPCs visibly pop into view close to the camera, especially in city areas or while riding a horse.
Distant foliage and environmental textures can occasionally fail to load full detail promptly, resulting in blurred objects or pop-in.
