The Sinking City — PS5 & PS5 Pro performance
Technical analysis last updated
The Sinking City shipped on PS4 in 2019 and received a native PS5 version in February 2021, sold as a separate SKU rather than a free upgrade because of the rights dispute between Frogwares and Focus Home. The PS5 build has no graphics-mode selector: it simply runs at 4K and holds 60fps for the most part, with occasional minor hiccups. The biggest practical gain is loading: the PS5 version has no loading screens during exploration and fast travel resolves in around four seconds, against well over a minute on PS4. Some long-standing bugs survive the upgrade, including mipmapping pop-in, lighting flicker and animation glitches. No ray tracing, 120Hz mode or PS5 Pro patch has been documented.
Graphics modes on PlayStation 5
A straightforward 4K60 remaster with dramatically faster loading, held back by leftover visual bugs and no mode options.
Standard
PS5UnverifiedSingle mode with no graphics options; residual mipmapping and lighting bugs carried over from the PS4 release.
